Social listening on Reddit

Social listening on Reddit is the practice of reading the threads where people describe a problem in their own words. It is not a dashboard of share of voice, and it is not a brand-mention count. The output is a short list of conversations a person on your team can still join.
Listening fails when every hit is equal
A keyword alert proves the word appeared. On Reddit that word appears in jokes, support threads for a competitor, hiring posts, and actual buying questions. If those four look the same in your inbox, you will stop opening it. The listen step has to throw three of them out.
Purchase-intent scoring is one way to throw them out. It asks whether the writer is choosing, not whether the keyword is present. You can do a rough version by hand with the intent analyzer, or let a project inbox do it on a schedule.
What to listen for
Listen for the job, the tool they want to leave, and the constraint that makes the usual answer wrong. Those phrases show up before your brand name does. A monitor that only alerts on the brand name tells you about reputation. A monitor that alerts on the problem tells you about demand. Most early products need the second one.
A mention search is the brand-name check. It is a snapshot. Listening, as a practice, is the same search tomorrow.
Where the notes should live
Keep the threads you acted on marked done, and the threads you rejected marked skipped. Otherwise next week's listen repeats this week's. That record is the difference between research and a channel.
